My Minimal, Zero Waste, NO Packaging - Diet
I was never an overweight person. Even during and post pregnancy, I had nominal weight gain. It was only after I stopped breastfeeding Thanvi, I gained a few extra pounds.
I came across this diet plan thrice in two years.
When I wanted to lose weight.
When I wanted to eat all natural.
When I wanted to quit packaged foods.
Nothing convinced me so intensely until I heard this.
Extra weight requires extra food.
The global food production system is responsible for up to one-third of all human-caused greenhouse-gas emissions. The researchers found that agricultural production provides the lion’s share of greenhouse-gas emissions from the food system, releasing up to 12,000 megatonnes of carbon dioxide every year. From fertilizer manufacture, deforestation, land usage, farming, poultry raising, cold storage, transportation, marketing to cooking, we consume a tremendous amount of resources.
We actually require way less food than we think. We have been marketed and exploited with too much food. We eat when we are happy, sad, bored, lonely, to socialise, to celebrate, to gift,to mourn, to diet (energy bars, shakes, diet soda etc,.) We associate food more with emotions, fashion and status than hunger these days, which is dangerous to us and the Earth.
So what diet I follow? I follow Paleo – a diet based on the types of foods presumed to have been eaten by early humans. I primarily eat veggies, meat, fruits, nuts, seeds and dairy. What don’t I eat? Cereals, Pulses, grains, legumes, all processed food, sugar and alcohol.
The Paleo diet is the healthiest way you can eat because it is the ONLY nutritional approach that works with your genetics to help you stay lean, strong and energetic! Research in biology, biochemistry, Ophthalmology, Dermatology and many other disciplines indicate it is our modern diet, full of refined foods, trans fats and sugar, that is at the root of degenerative diseases such as obesity, cancer, diabetes, heart disease, Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s, depression and infertility. – Robb Wolf
Paleo suits my organised minimalist lifestyle perfectly:
It’s minimal effort in
Planning (to think what’s the menu was a humongous task earlier ),
Cooking (Soaking, boiling, fermenting, grilling, juicing etc.,)
Minimal utensils
Fewer ingredients
No plastic/packaged food
Very comfortable while travelling (I just drink a bulletproof coffee, pack some nuts and lemon water and I am out, that’s enough until dinner)
Less time-consuming
Packaging Free, All Natural Diet
Health
I have lost weight, feeling fitter and more energetic. I don’t feel sluggish in the afternoons anymore, my skin is more healthy. A lot of my family members are following paleo who have reduced weight, stopped insulin within few weeks, cured arthritis, blood pressure and diabetics.
Cost
The diet appears to be costly in the beginning but the quantity of consumption is decreasing day by day which reduces the burden on my pocket and the Earth.
Eat only when hungry, its the best for health and Earth.
